Third Generation Cellular Automation for Modeling Excitable Media
This paper introduces a new cellular automaton model of excitable media with improved treatments of (1) diiusion and wave propagation, and (2) slow dynamics of the recovery variable. The automaton is both computationally eecient and faithful to the underlying partial diierential equations.
متن کاملTowards Arithmetical Chips in Sub-Excitable Media: Cellular Automaton Models
Excitable chemical media are amongst most promising ‘wet’ computing devices capable for solving a wide ranging of tasks from optimization, computational geometry, image processing and robot control. The excitable media can also implement functionally complete sets of logical gates thus qualifying as (logically) universal computing systems. See theoretical background and details of laboratory im...
متن کاملComputational Aspects of Modeling Excitable Media Using Cellular Automata
The study of excitable media is important in understanding the behavior of complex systems including mold growth, star formation, and cardiac tissue contraction. In this paper we discuss some computational aspects of modeling excitable media using multi-state cellular automata. In particular, we discuss implementation issues, algorithm development and visualization on the AGILA High Performance...
متن کاملExcitable Greenberg-Hastings cellular automaton model on scale-free networks.
We study the excitable Greenberg-Hastings cellular automaton model on scale-free networks. We obtain analytical expressions for no external stimulus the uncoupled case. It is found that the curves, the average activity F versus the external stimulus rate r, can be fitted by a Hill function, but not exactly, there exists a relation F approximately r{alpha} for the low-stimulus response, where th...
متن کاملSpiral wave generation in heterogeneous excitable media.
As the coupling in a heterogeneous excitable medium is reduced, three different types of behavior are encountered: plane waves propagate without breaking up, plane waves break up into spiral waves, and plane waves block. We illustrate these phenomena in monolayers of chick embryonic heart cells using calcium sensitive fluorescent dyes. Following the addition of heptanol, an agent that reduces t...
